Inelastic Light Scattering from Correlated Electrons
Inelastic light scattering is an intensively used tool in the study of electronic properties of solids. Triggered by the discovery of high temperature superconductivity in the cuprates and by new developments in instrumentation, light scattering both in the visible (Raman effect) and the X-ray part of the electromagnetic spectrum has become a method complementary to optical (infrared) spectrosc...
متن کاملPolarized deep-inelastic scattering from nuclei: A relativistic approach.
We discuss spin-dependent, deep-inelastic scattering from nuclei within a co-variant framework. In the relativistic impulse approximation this is described in terms of the amplitude for forward, virtual-photon scattering from an off-mass-shell nucleon. The general structure of the off-shell nucleon hadronic tensor is derived, and the leading behavior of the off-shell nucleon structure functions...
متن کاملFrom Deep Inelastic Scattering to Photoproduction: a Unified Approach
The strikingly different high energy behaviours of real photoabsorption cross-sections with Q = 0 and the low x proton structure function at large Q are studied from a laboratory frame viewpoint, in which the x and Q dependence reflects the spacetime structure of the interaction. This is done using a simple model which incorporates hadron dominance, but attributes the striking enhancement obser...
متن کاملParity Violation in Inelastic Scattering of Polarized Electrons
Parity non-conservation has been observed in the inelastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons from an unpolarized deuterium target at 19.4 and 22.2 GeV. We find an asymmetry A = (oR oL)/(oR + uL) = (-9.5 2 1.6) x 10 -5 Q2, Q2 in (GeV/c)2 , for values of Q2 near 1.4. The ~ statistical and systematic errors are each about 9 percent of the measured asymmetry. This result is consisten...
متن کاملTransition probability functions for applications of inelastic core-loss scattering of fast electrons
The quantum mechanical scattering of fast electrons on crystals has a long history. Especially in the transmission electron microscope (TEM), electron energy loss spectrometry (EELS) has a wide field of applications [1]. All of these methods have in common that the interpretation of measurements requires a thorough understanding of the theoretical framework and – most often – computer simulatio...
